The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at The Game Awards — A New Category Might Solve This

Whenever a significant awards ceremony approaches, one notices a clamor for introducing additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of fans dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they barely qualify a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked for anything during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded in 2019
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often modest productions, however the design in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles globally and have been for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators operate at the demanding boundary game development, producing among essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
