Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered many other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.
An important official stated the attack made him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
